I have not done one of these in many months but given the technical difficulties that the site is experiencing, I figure now is as good a time as any to feature some Nigerian music.
Banky W. is an artist that many of us have been following since his breakout smash "Ebute Meta" hit the internet a long time ago. The song is till as exciting as it was then. Banky W. sings a song about Nigeria and unity to the "Umbrella track" that was made famous by Rihanna over the summer. I won't lie, that "Ella, Ella, Eh, Eh" chorus in "Umbrella" was annoyingly catchy. Bloggers like Ugo Daniels (or as I affectionately call him, "Oga Cyprus") even complained that the song was a contributing factor to the incessant downpour and flooding that parts of England experienced in Summer 2007.
Anyway, Banky W. has a video available for his "Ebute Meta" song. While I would have much preferred a more original beat (I still find the Umbrella Song annoying and this song reminds me of it), I must confess that the artist uses his vocal skills, rapping abilities and lyrical strength to create a song that is equally catchy, less annoying (than the original) and even uplifting.
You can't beat that.

I am happy to say that Nigerian music comes in so many varieties and the Nigerian industry and artists are a dominating factor in the African and international entertainment market. It is exciting to think that our music can only get better with private investment and time. Haven't been here in ages. We can't deny the fact that the Nigerian music Industry of today is bigger than we can imagine and I think itz still growing.

Banky's "Ebute Meta", not a bad song but if i had the opportunity to i probably wouldn't include it in my music library.
Riding through traffic in La-Gos? I didn't like this one at all it lacked originality, I prefer the Blak Jesus remixes myself at least he doesn't take himself too seriously.
