TALIB KWELI ON AN 'OKADA' IN NIGERIA

Wednesday, February 20, 2008

For as long as I can remember, I have appreciated hip hop. No, not the stuff you hear on the radio. I mean the music that is hidden and requires active effort to find and discover. Anyway, luckily for all of us, Talib Kweli is a hip hop rapper that gets radio airplay. Maybe not as much as some other rappers out there, but his content is and has always been top notch. The following is a video sent to me by Oriyami Productions. It is Talib's video for Hostile Gospel/Deliver US (Part 1). The video was shot in Lagos, Nigeria and features cameos of area boys, what could be Aladura worshippers at Bar Beach (Victoria Island) (correct me if I am wrong) and a prince of Nigeria's Afro Beat, Femi Kuti at the shrine. Be for warned that there is some explicit language, so keep the kids away and keep the volume down if you are at work. Nevertheless, the video is well shot and make me long for a trip to Eko (the traditional Yoruba name for Lagos). It would be nice to be by the beach, having some suya and surrounded by family and friends, inhaling the salty air and watching the waves nibble at our toes.

Did I forget to mention that Talib Kweli was on an okada (motorcycle taxis) in this video?
Enjoy.

Ok, I can officially say that I am impressed with this guy. I can't count how many times I've seen him/met him and he's always fascinated me, but this definitely takes the cake. He loves Africa[ns], but unlike other rappers that claim to do the same but end up going to South Africa and only South Africa to shoot videos, he actually went to a place that many other rappers would not have found to be "video-shoot worth."

And the thing is that he made Nigeria beautiful in the video. I think I'm in love.

The video is fantastic! Don't have a clue what he was saying though.

lol@ Doja comment. But man, I love this video. You have an eye for good music. I just published a post on music - and would definitely like for you to shed some light on it. But I will definitely have to check out more on Talib Kweli. I think I am starting to become somewhat distant from hip-hop as most know it the more I listen to it.
i can't believe he is riding an okada. love it! love it!

nice vid, didn't hear a word, just like snoop. i like the okada scene though, reminds me of the 50 cent vids driving down sunset with lambo doors swung open (who drives with doors open?)

water pumps, oil filters, brakes and springs etc. This also increases thhe chances of winning will usually
be a drop down list of subcategories under the part chosen.
